Remembered for Love
By Joseph B. Yount III
From humble beginnings to the heights of spiritual leadership, Lao Russell’s life is an extraordinary journey of devotion, inner awakening, and global influence. Emigrating to America, she embarked on a lifelong quest to understand the deeper nature of the human spirit. That quest found its fulfillment when she met Walter Russell—renowned artist, scientist, and philosopher, and the subject of Glenn Clark’s classic The Man Who Tapped the Secrets of the Universe.
Together, Lao and Walter founded The University of Science and Philosophy at Swannanoa, a breathtaking Italian Renaissance mansion perched atop the Blue Ridge Mountains overlooking the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. From this mountaintop sanctuary, they dedicated their lives to sharing universal principles of love, light, creativity, and the divine potential within every human being.
Even after Walter’s passing in 1963 and Lao’s in 1988, their legacy continues to flourish. Today, the University still inspires students around the globe through its timeless teachings, publications, and home-study courses.
In this intimate and comprehensive biography, the late J. B. Yount III—Lao’s personal counsel and confidant—draws upon fifteen years of research, personal interviews, rare writings, and archival material to illuminate the remarkable life of a woman whose influence quietly shaped the spiritual landscape of the 20th century.
