The Lost and Found Illustrations of Walter B. Russell

1871–1963 | Golden Age Illustrator — "The Leonardo da Vinci of His Time"

By Victoria Airisun Wonderli

Discover a lesser-known chapter of Walter Russell's remarkable life in this new illustrated publication by Victoria Airisun Wonderli.

While Russell is widely recognized for his philosophical and scientific writings, his earlier accomplishments as an artist, illustrator, and writer are equally fascinating. Through rare photographs, rediscovered illustrations, and historical research, Wonderli brings readers into Russell's formative years in New York City during the Golden Age of Illustration.

The book explores his artistic commissions, contributions to prominent magazines, experiences as a war correspondent, and friendships with influential figures of his time. Readers will also discover personal photographs, the evolution of his artistic style, and a glimpse inside the studio where he experienced his extraordinary 39-day period of illumination.

Wonderli, also the author of Swannanoa Palace: A Pictorial History, Its Past and People, offers a unique perspective on the experiences and artistic achievements that helped shape one of the 20th century's most extraordinary individuals.
